Staying Focused

Did you notice that “Christmas” started before Halloween this year???  Of course, starting Thanksgiving week, stores went crazy with holiday deals and decorations. Families began to shop for Christmas gifts Black Friday (which actually started Thanksgiving Day in many cases) and won’t stop until Christmas Eve.  So with all this rushing around trying to find the best deals, how do we keep our focus on the meaning of the season?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be on his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

How can we focus our attention on the beautiful gift that saved our very lives? Here are a few simple ways to keep us on track.

  1. Instead of watching the newest Santa Claus movie, read a part of the Christmas story in Luke 2 each day. If we can take the time to read a bit of the story each day, our hearts will mediate and give thanks to God for the awesome gift of His son.
  2. Give yourself to others by donating time to those who need it the most. Go through your closets and cupboards and give to homeless shelters and food pantries in the name of Christ.
  3. Be Wise: Learn from the wise men who tenaciously sought out Jesus on the night of His birth. For a video and description of the faith of the wise men, click here.

Slow down this Christmas. Read, meditate, worship and adore. Give of yourself in wisdom, as you seek the one called Wonderful . . . The Prince of Peace.  Let your heart be still as you allow Him to fill your life.

We wish you Joy, Peace and an Abundance of Love this Holiday Season.
